Going Home

Image
As the title goes, we were going to our native on a festive season after five years. Every time I go home, I start collecting gifts for relatives and friends. The excitement of going to my native is immense and an array of childhood memories bubble up. As a child, I always felt the festive mornings were brighter than other days, with a devotional songs and fragrance of incense sticks in the air, which made me unusually bright and happy. Being of a generation which saw the transition of techie life, with Radios, Tape recorders, Videos replaced by Smart phones, Tablets and Ultrabooks, Internet TVs, we did have a childhood with seldom use of electronic gadgets. We played outdoors, ran around bushes and ended up with rashes and bruises, climbed trees to pluck fruits, smelt flowers, sipped nectar of some flowers. All these might seem strange to this generation because most of them live in apartments, where plants and trees are put up for beautification of the landscape. The festive day

Wayanad- Things to do

Image
I visited Wayanad in the year 2005 and there could be a lot of changes to the tourism of that area now. If I didn't put my experience into words, I wouldn't be doing justice to one of the most beautiful places on earth. The idea to visit Wayanad started because of my search to stay in 'Tree houses'. I could call it my childhood fantasy to live on a Tree house. My web search led me to located Treehouses at Idukki and Wayanad in Kerala, India. We chose to go to Wayanad and booked ourselves for two nights stay at a cottage and one night stay at the Treetop House at the Jungle Park Resort, Vythiri, Wayanad. Nestled amidst the blissfully preserved tropical rain forest, the Tree houses are about 86 feet high. We alighted at Kozhikode Railway Station and headed towards Wayanad by the Resort's car. We travelled through the town of Kozhikode and then the hairpin roads to Wayanad. The ride to the Resort from Vythiri- NH17 was by an yesteryear Jeep through an un

Night Walks

Image
It was yet another Tuesday of the third month of the year and the day passed with nothing to write home about. In the evening we had gone for our night walk after supper. Well, I could say, these light night walks was something that I still relish from my childhood. I spent my childhood in an Island, where by the dusk, time stood still and the night walks with my parents, along the banks of the backwaters, were one of the favorite moments of my childhood days. Lucky for me, my globe trotting spouse too enjoys the night walks as a family time. But it became a ritual after our pet Tusch came into our lives. As much as I look forward for it in the evenings, so does Tusch. Tusch all set for evening walk. Our normal walkway is along the alley near our apartment. The exit has a small gate which can be accessed with an access card. If I remember right, in a period of last three months the exit gate was faulty for 4 to 5 times. Some people use the exit, so I am rather careful

Hong Kong- Things to do

Image
A long awaited trip to the 'Fragrant Harbour', Hong Kong. I would call it a weekend visit. The place has a mountainous terrain with vertical buildings and often described as where "East meets West" because of it's cultural influences in different time periods. I wouldn't be surprise if you visualized colonial type of architectural buildings among those mountainous terrain, but to accommodate the influx of people in there, vertical high risers seems inevitable. Travel from HK International Airport to our Hotel at Causeway Bay was by the Airport Express and all travelling within HK was done using the Octopus card purchased from the Airport Customer Care Centre. The Great George Street at Causeway Bay houses many Restaurants at Island Beverly and a must try is at Saigon Saigon, Vietnamese Cuisine. Vietnamese Food at Saigon Great George Street The malls, Lane Crawford and Hysan Avenue were all lit up for the Chine
