Hobart - Things to do

Another year comes to an end and we were planning a holiday by last quarter. The destination would be Brisbane to attend our daughter's convocation in December from QUT. This time we were travelling as a big family trip to Australia and wanted to cover the major cities and sightseeing spots. After a good number of discussions, we chalked out the places of visit. It would be Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Hobart and Sydney. Hobart was a place I was looking forward to visiting. I heard about the old fishing town from my spouse who visited there on business.
Inside our Sullivan Cove Apartment

We booked a penthouse at Sullivan Cove Apartment. We stayed at Gibson's flour Mill restored penthouse with 3 Bedrooms. It was at a wonderful location, close to the wharf, Salamanca Market and a lot of eateries around.

Mezethes Greek Tarverna

We had reached Hobart by noon. Settling in the Apartment, after a long drive from Airport left us all ready to eat a horse. We had set out to find food at the food joints along the wharf. We were late for lunch and most joints were nearing closing time. It was a nice walk along the sleepy shores to eat whatever we could grab and had Mexican food. That evening we strolled along the Salamanca Market and had a feast at Mezethes Greek Taverna. There were pubs near to our stay and it is not unusual to hear the siren of Police vehicle running down to pick up the drunk after a brawl. Tasmania is popular for its Gems and Minerals jewellery. And never missed buying a few pieces of jewellery in silver with natural pink tourmaline, nuummite, opal from Geoff Roberts.

The following morning we rented cars to take us to Tasman Island Cruise, the booking we did through TasVacations. We started to Pennicott Wilderness Journeys Hobart Waterfront Booking Centre for the three hour cruise to along the spectacular coastline between Port Arthur and Eaglehawk Neck. From the booking Centre the bus ride took us to the yellow boat to ferry through the ocean. The ride was very interesting cruising along the weather eroded limestone cliffs and caves. But I had my share of seasickness even after popping up the anti-sickness ginger tabs. That didn't perturb me from getting few photos of the Albatross, Lazying fur seals, Sea gulls. I wanted to see dolphins, penguins and whales but was a little disappointed that I couldn't see them in their natural habitat. It was a wonderful experience cruising along the shores and seeing few sea animals.

We headed back to the apartment and had a good rest to continue our journey to rest of the mainland. Next morning we headed early to the airport to catch the flight to Sydney.
