Hong Kong- Things to do

Image
A long awaited trip to the 'Fragrant Harbour', Hong Kong. I would call it a weekend visit. The place has a mountainous terrain with vertical buildings and often described as where "East meets West" because of it's cultural influences in different time periods. I wouldn't be surprise if you visualized colonial type of architectural buildings among those mountainous terrain, but to accommodate the influx of people in there, vertical high risers seems inevitable. Travel from HK International Airport to our Hotel at Causeway Bay was by the Airport Express and all travelling within HK was done using the Octopus card purchased from the Airport Customer Care Centre. The Great George Street at Causeway Bay houses many Restaurants at Island Beverly and a must try is at Saigon Saigon, Vietnamese Cuisine. Vietnamese Food at Saigon Great George Street The malls, Lane Crawford and Hysan Avenue were all lit up for the Chine...

Lombok- Things to do

Image
It was nearing the end of the year and we were as usual planning a holiday. We chose to go to Lombok, an island near Bali. We wanted to make the best use of time there and we contacted Edy Sumedy at edytrekking@gmail.com . Edy planned our tour and it was a wonderful package of fun and adventure. Lombok is popular for Mount Rinjani trekking. The trekking is not available during the rainy seasons. So we did hard and soft trekking towards the Sindang Gila and Tiu Kelep waterfalls at the foothills of Rinjani.  Sindang Gila Waterfalls Tiu  Kelep Waterfalls The Black Monkeys The trail was wet due to rains and the rocks slippery but at the end it was one of the most beautiful sights to see, the waterfalls, with water so clear and sweeter than mineral water. Whilst trekking we saw the rare black monkeys. They are arboreal and they never come to the ground.   Later that day we visited the traditional houses of North Lombok. They practice Wek...

Kusu (Turtle) Island

Kusu Island K usu Island is a getaway island approximately 5.6 km from Singapore with pristine beaches. It takes about 15 minutes approximately by ferry from Marina South Pier. St. John’s and Sister Islands are few islands lying on the south of Singapore between  the Singapore mainland and straits of Singapore.  Saint John's Island St. John’s Island served as a quarantine centre for immigrants and later it was used as a holding centre for political detainees. In 1975, the island was turned into a holiday haven with lagoons, shady paths and picnic spots, making it a popular weekend venue. Sister Islands are home to some of Singapore's richest reef. A wide variety of corals can be found in the waters surrounding the islands. For those making their own trip, Singapore Island Cruise provides ferry services every half an hour starting at 7 a.m to Kusu and St.John's Island. To Sister Islands only Private Water Taxis are available. My passion for ph...

A Winter visit to Stockholm

Image
T he best time to visit any Scandinavian country would ideally be spring, with lots of warmth and freshness around. Stockholm is a historic place, built on 14 islands surrounded by water. On a winter visit to Stockholm, if you are from a tropical country, it is advisable to keep yourself warm adequately.  Most of the Hop- on Hop-off Bus/Boat sightseeing won’t be available in winter, depending on the weather.  My winter visit to Stockholm was a memorable one.  From Arlanda Airport, we purchased the Stockholm Card which enabled us to use public transport and visit museums. There are about 70 museums, few to mention would be Historiska Museet , where the culture and art from the Stone Age to the mid-1500s are preserved.                                         ...
