Our group of runners readying before the run It was in my mind to run a Marathon someday. I am not a runner except those athletic run of 100 m or 200 m in schooldays. As time flew, years mounting to age, my lung capacity was getting bad so was that I started weighing heavier. These were all signs to let me back out of the wish to run. Well, when the opportunity comes knocking, it's always the will to go for it or not. I decided to go for it... It was too short a period for practice or to get trained for a 10 Km run. I just had two weeks. A run of 10 Km needs both endurance and speed. Like always to find a solution, I started to Google... :). Every article mentioned at least ten weeks of practice. My group of friends had been running for over a year. I did a slow trial run with them. But to my disappointment, I really couldn't catch up with their speed or endurance. The concept of the apartments we moved in were that of a Resort model. Having moved to a tiny new home myself, I have experience a whole lot of things, from an emotionally confused me to get things organised at the possible available space to moving consciously within the available space.With swimming pools in between every block, low floor buildings, Gym, Community Hall, barbecue areas and Tennis court, it gave a resort atmosphere. There is a new look out for smaller homes in the present world. In the ancient architectural knowledge of Vastu Shastra of India, the homes were built according to the need of the family living in it. Need....the needs now are far fetching. Kuching was our holiday destination this time. There are different theories as to how Kuching got its name, some say its from the Kucing, Malay word for cat and another theory goes that it is from the name Cochin, trading Indian port and generic term for trading harbour in China and British India. Some sources say that it got it's name from Mata kucing, a fruit grew widely in Malaysia and Indonesia and so on. I heard about Tholpavakoothu, a Shadow puppetry, from my father. In his childhood days this art was performed during the Temple festival in Palghat from 10 pm to day break. I never got a chance to see it in Kerala. It was an amazing moment to see it in Singapore as a part of Kalaa Utsavam 2014. Tholpavakoothu Tholpavakoothu is a unique shadow puppet theatre from Kerala which is preserved as a family tradition by the Pulavars community. Temples in India were places to impart knowledge and different art forms thrived in there in times. Tholpavakoothu is a ritualistic art form dedicated to Bhagavati, the mother Goddess and performed during the Temple Festivals, Utsavams. This puppetry is performed in Koothu Mandapam, a specially constructed theatre in front of the temple during the months of January to May.
